New Owner for Vale Cafe - On The Sands

Debbie Burroughs & assistant Emma PotterA popular Vale cafe has a new owner, but Debbie Burroughs will be a familiar face across the counter.

She owned Jingles in Melton’s Bell Centre for 10 years and has worked at On The Sands Cafe and Deli in Long Clawson for the last 18 months. She liked it so much she has now taken over the business from Rachel Dorsett.

Debbie said: “The business has been set up really well and it’s popular with local people, cyclists, walkers and visitors to the area.

“We’ve stocked up the deli counter and are now selling kitcheware and cookware. Over the next few months we’ll develop the menu further, too, to offer customers good value for money.”

The cafe deli is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday and from 10.30am to 4pm on Sundays where brunch with the papers is a popular pastime. This press release appeared in the Melton Times - November 2010 - New Owner for Vale Cafe.

Cup Cake Mania Hits Long Clawson

The 150, seven tier wedding cake Cup cake mania has hit Long Clawson in Leicestershire as the village’s popular café and deli, On The Sands struggles to keep up with the sudden demand for their popular fondant iced cakes.

“They are literally flying off the shelves like hot cakes”, says owner Rachel Dorsett, who opened the deli in the Vale of Belvoir village, four years ago.

First it was World Cup Cup Cakes, with of course a St George’s cross emblazoned across the top, followed by Father’s Day cakes and most recently a 150 cake, seven tier wedding cake for bride Amy Burdett of Great Dalby, who married on Friday 6th August 2010.

“The cakes took a day to make at our deli in Long Clawson, by full-time chef and the whole lot was delivered on Friday afternoon with a few spare in case of accidents,” explains Rachel.  “They have become a real firm favourite with brides at the moment and we are doing almost one a week throughout the summer months, although Amy’s was by far the biggest yet!”

“Brides don’t seem to want the old fashioned fruit cake any longer, opting for the individually iced cup cake instead, which not only looks fantastic but also is very easy to serve.  We can personalise them, do them in any colour combination and each one can be very individual, which makes a great feature at any wedding,” she adds.

The café and deli, based opposite the surgery in Long Clawson also offers a postal gift service, making and sending boxed cup cakes anywhere in the country.

“They really are a great gift and very popular at the moment for any occasion,” explains Rachel.  “Birthdays, anniversaries, get well, good luck, whatever the occasion, we can personalise them to fit and send them next day delivery.
